One of my favourite trees and the first feature tree I planted on my verge to support habitat and increase biodiversity options is the paperbark from the Kimberley. It typically grows to a height of 8-10 meters and a width of 3-4 meters in Perth. The tree produces bright red, bottlebrush-like flowers with white stamens and features cream-grey, papery bark. It blooms twice a year, in autumn and spring, providing nectar for birds and creating a haven for insects. The tree has non-invasive roots and can tolerate flood-prone areas.
